Utkal Statistics Olympiad (USO)

Statistics, as a subject, is emerging with limitless opportunities. Its importance in data analysis is widely recognized across disciplines for uncovering valuable insights and supporting informed decision-making. Today, statistical applications are extensively used for data storage, analysis, modeling, prediction, forecasting, and various other aspects of data science. Consequently, statisticians have promising career prospects in both government and private sectors.

To foster interest and appreciation for statistics among the youth of Odisha, the Department of Statistics, Utkal University, in collaboration with the Utkal Statistics Alumni Association (USAA), organizes the Utkal Statistics Olympiad (USO)—an annual competition for 10+2 students across the state.

Numerous colleges, senior secondary schools, and institutes have joined hands in promoting awareness and cultivating a passion for statistics among students. The members of USAA have consistently taken the initiative to encourage young talent by offering monetary awards, scholarships, and other incentives.
